More and more people use mobile gadgets to access web content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is constantly growing. To fulfill this demand, the organization that administers the generic domain name extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI domain extension in 2005. The first registrations were started in September 2006, and the intention behind this extension is that all websites that use it should comply with special requirements. In other words, all .MOBI websites have to be built to be accessed properly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in cooperation with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These have to do with how a website is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The rules have provoked some questions considering the fact that the universal domain is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to open a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a web page should be created in such a way as to be opened by most browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
Given that the .MOBI Registry does not register domains directly, you can book a dot MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours.
